We heard yesterday evening that Rachel Podger is sadly having to withdraw from tonight’s concert following a medical emergency in her close family. Happily the distinguished leader of the Academy of Ancient Music and Dunedin Ensemble Bojan Čičić* has agreed to step in so the concert will proceed albeit with minor changes to the programme as advertised. The programme will now be:
Corelli Op.2 No.10 E maj
Purcell Three parts No.12 D maj
Leclair Duo Op.12 No.2 in E maj
Handel Op.5 No.3 E min
—interval—
Geminiani Cello Sonata
Leclair Duo Op.12 No.6 Bb
Purcell 4 parts No.6 G min
Handel Op.2 No.6 G min
If you would like a credit for another event please let us know, but we feel confident that with the same ensemble members from Brecon Baroque and a soloist with a rich pedigree of his own, you will enjoy the full glories of the concert as would have been the case with Rachel. Needless to say, she is very disappointed not to be able to join us and we hope to invite her on another occasion.
Rachel Podger has been called ‘the queen of the Baroque violin’, Gramophone magazine also describing her as ‘a glorious example of someone who lives her life through her violin’. We welcome her to Petworth in the company of a quartet of musicians from Brecon Baroque, the acclaimed period instrument ensemble she directs, and which consists of an international line-up of world-class virtuosi.
