“It says something about a young pianist when they pick up award after award after award. And it’s not that there aren’t dozens – hundreds – of great pianists out there. Ariel Lanyi is one such. A prize winner at Leeds yes, but almost more impressive is the award of the Prix Serdang, a massively prestigious international competition he didn’t even know he had even entered. They just awarded it to him anyway. And we will absolutely hear why. It’s that obvious!” Stewart Collins
The festival celebrates the third year of its relationship with the competition that has produced multiple prize winners who have gone on to make major international careers. In addition to his success in Leeds, Ariel was honoured in 2023 to receive the Prix Serdang, a prize awarded by the distinguished Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder. Not a competition, this is an unsolicited recognition of a young pianist’s achievements and an investment in their future.
Please note the change to the previously advertised programme.
