A first for the festival – working in association with the National Trust, Petworth House’s Pleasure Garden comes alive with a series of free performances for the whole family. Street entertainers, music, buskers, stilt walkers and the frankly surreal and bizarre.
Do also take the opportunity to drop into the United Reformed Church whilst in town to see artwork created by local school children (click here for info) during the course of the latest Petworth Festival/West Sussex Arts Society PopUp Art project, and look out for heritage walks (click here for info) around Petworth where you can discover some of the many nooks and crannies in our beautiful town (Petworth Town Self Guided Walk download here ). Find out more about the Petworth Heritage Partnership here.
Five hours during which to see Petworth en fête and in an entirely different light. And we say it again – all free!
The acts performing in the Pleasure Garden include an entirely mischievous trio of Slinkies; The Tree Fellas; Dennis Teeth the Gramophone DJ; a pair of Mermaids clearly some way from their natural habitat; music from Charlotte Campbell; the beautiful installation that is The Bell Orchestra; ‘street entertainer’ supreme Marky Jay; and hands- on activities including a circus skills workshop and an opportunity to make-your-own-art with The Children’s Workshop.
We recommend parking in town and entering the Pleasure Garden via the Cowyard entrance (GU28 0DE) open from 10am until 5pm
Town car parks: GU28 0AP or GU28 0ET
If you would like to attend a hands-on session with The Children’s Workshop, please sign up on arrival at the Pleasure Garden. There will be various timeslots available (with one household bubble per table). First come first served.
Please note that entrance to the National Trust car park and Petworth House will be FREE over the weekend but there is limited capacity so entrance cannot be guaranteed.
Please bring your own picnics.
Light snacks, hot & cold drinks and ice cream will be available to purchase at the pop-up take-away kiosk and the indoor café (operating under current government guidance).
