Awarded the OBE in the Queen’s 2015 Birthday Honours List, Kathryn Tickell is the foremost exponent of the hauntingly beautiful Northumbrian pipes, a composer, performer, educator and successful recording artist whose work is deeply rooted in her native Northumbria. Working with her outstanding ensemble of musicians from across the British Isles, Kathryn and The Darkening forge fresh sounds merged with ancient influences. Expect dazzling duets from Kathryn’s pipes and Amy’s accordion, contrasting with dark and dirty riffs and rhythms from Kieran’s octave mandolin and Joe’s inventive use of drums and percussion.
