Internationally renowned soprano Susan Bullock brings to the Champs Hill Music Room an evening of classic songs from the Great American Songbook, featuring work by Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim. Amongst the numbers included in the programme will be Someone to Watch Over Me, Stormy Weather, If I Loved You, My Funny Valentine and Losing My Mind.
Susan Bullock’s unique position as one of the world’s most sought-after British dramatic sopranos was recognised by the award of a CBE in June 2014. As Wagner’s Brünnhilde she is the first ever soprano to sing four consecutive cycles of Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Royal Opera House under Sir Antonio Pappano as part of the London 2012 Festival. Popular appearances have included the Last Night of the Proms in 2011 and a special appearance at the 2012 Olympic closing ceremony.
She will be accompanied by composer, arranger and acclaimed cabaret pianist Richard Sisson who has lately enjoyed musical adventures with Alan Titchmarsh, Janie Dee, Kitty Whately and Martin Jarvis including a Sondheim anniversary concert last summer at the BBC Proms.
“Bullock, always profoundly musical, brings tears to one’s eyes with a tenderness of phrasing that seems second nature to her.”
